As consultants to HH Architecture (architect of record for both projects), Lifespan Design Studio led a comprehensive programming and layout exercise engaging Seniors Program staff, partner agency representatives, and the public in the establishment of goals and priorities for new facilities. The 19,382 square foot Center at Whitaker Mill incorporates state-of-the-art fitness and computer centers, an art studio, and a billiards room, plus numerous flexible-use rooms and spaces to accommodate a broad-spectrum of recreational, educational, and social service programs. The building’s traditional style reflects the aesthetic of a historically significant structure with which it shares a park-like site. The more contemporary 4,466 square foot Center at Millbrook Exchange Park incorporates a large multi-purpose room/auditorium, flexible-use classroom, kitchen, and naturally-lit lobby to support a wide variety of uses for this satellite facility. Construction is expected to begin in early 2010.
