New Housing Ohio, a non-profit affordable and supportive housing developer, asked Lifespan Design Studio and G/C Contracting to create a universally accessible and user-friendly 10-unit apartment complex. Flexible/adaptable units of various sizes and composition accommodate individuals with different needs and families of different sizes. All units were designed to be “visitable,” with appropriate clearances and turning space, and at least one accessible full bathroom with roll-in shower in each unit. Finishes, fixtures, and devices were thoughtfully selected to create a stylish and user-friendly setting that residents can be proud of, and in which they can function effectively with ease.

The building’s central community room has a fireplace for ambiance and adjacent screened porch to encourage socialization among residents. Ample space was created for on-site storage of items to be provided to residents by the organization, or utilized by staff to support resident-centered programs and services.

The exterior style and finishes were selected to harmonize with homes in the surrounding community.
